About the Artist

Laurie Schwartz began painting just 10 years ago.  After taking a one-day drawing workshop on a lark one summer while on vacation in Winter Harbor Maine, Laurie decided to try a class at MICA the following fall. After two years studying at MICA, Laurie discovered the historic and inspirational Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied there ever since, still taking one evening class a week and painting in her own studio on weekends.

Laurie especially enjoys painting unique artifacts or antique objects such as feathers, a many layered child’s chiffon dress or antique boots that clearly traveled many miles.  Playful and fun candy scenes or old toys that evoke memories are another favorite theme. Though she also paints landscapes, Laurie enjoys capturing the odd still life scene most.

Laurie’s work has been exhibited in the National Arts Club in New York City, won an award in the National Artists Magazine and been written about in Southwest Arts Magazine.
