While on location last month in this really cool converted warehouse in Queens, I made the following images. The space itself was quite eclectic, but there was an eerie, haunted sense about it that I hoped to convey here.

It’s been rather quiet on the blog for the last few weeks and there is definitely good reason for it. First, I was out for a week on location in lovely muggy Columbus, Ohio which I found was quite a nice little city and great place to run if you are in to that sort of thing. Second, since returning I have been toiling away getting a new print of an older image ready to go. For a little back story: a few months ago I was contacted by Lauren Metzger, the exhibitions manager at the Ah Haa School for the Arts in Telluride, Colorado about donating a print for their annual fund raising auction.

I spend a fair amount of time in the little town of Telluride and those who follow this here blog may recall that I participated in a bookbinding and box making class at the Ah Haa last fall (check out the fruits of that labor). While I’d given them work in years prior for their silent auction, this year Lauren asked if I’d like to be included in the main event, the live auction. I felt honored and I hope that my print will help raise a little much needed cash for the small local arts organization.

The latest and most likely last from the Hotel Delmano series. I think this subject is finally winding down and I’m feeling like I’ve exhausted the possibilities of how to reinterpret the same window. Though the beautiful thing about it is I could walk by again one day and who knows maybe something new will reveal itself.

This Could Be Our Joint

I’ve been shooting a lot of reflections lately, like the Hotel Delmano series and Ghost in the Machine. Here’s another much different from those, made in the open door of a bar around the corner. It is never open for business, but the shelves are stocked. Occasionally the doors are flung wide open, the televisions turned to a sporting event, but never a sole inside.

Copenhagen is overflowing with parks. Each is more beautifully manicured than the last with sweeping landscaping and lawns perfectly trimmed. For all intents and purposes each one could be an arboretum with every plant variety meticulously marked for identification. It is all so orderly and comprehensive, but perfection is only one side of the coin.

Mother and Son

I learned this morning that my grandmother, the last remaining of my grandparents, died last night. June Simpson had suffered the loss of a son, her husband and Alzheimer’s. Yet throughout she was a faithful and loving woman who brought a sense of joy to everyone who knew her. She was 93.

I say and I think she’d agree, hold on but not to tight, lest we forget to enjoy it while it lasts.

Hotel Delmano

You won’t often find me leaning over to take photographs of flowers, small animals or other such things, but here are a few images from a short series I was working on for a little while called Flowers at the Hotel Delmano. Each time I’d pass it seemed there was a new bouquet in the window and each time the light and scene outside made the same window unique.

On a related note, like past years, I’ll be donating a print to the Ah Haa school in Telluride for their annual fundraising auction. I was thinking about sending one of these (probably the second or last one) mostly because I really want an excuse to print one of these and see how it comes out. I have to decide and send them a jpg of the image, whatever it maybe, on Monday, so I’ve got the weekend to mull it over.
