Cookie Monster

Having something of a sweet tooth myself, I’ve always identified with Cookie Monster. Apparently he makes an appearance on 6th Ave during the holidays, so I snapped his portrait.

Florida

I’ve been a bit slow lately, scanning and posting any work in the last few months, but I’m starting to catch up now and have a lot to share in the coming days. Below are a few out takes from a working trip to Florida in November. The first two are just a couple of excerpts from a bunch of images made walking around Miami on my day off. The second two were made on location in the Everglades.

Found my photo at the American Photography annual opening party last week, right next to Bruno by Seliger and Batgirl by Nicolas Silberfaden.

Imogene

In addition to my love of image making, I am an avid or addicted (depending on your perspective) distance runner. I write and maintain a running blog (http://teamfirspring.com) on which I catalogue my goals, some favorite local routes, training theories and sometimes a little evolutionary science. I mention this because as disparate as these two passions may seem to be, they often converge in sometimes unexpected ways. Often while out running I’ll see images that I want to make. Otherwise, during a long run I may find myself pondering the nuances of a potential project and then of course sometimes I’ll even make images of people running. Which brings me to the point and pictures in this post.

Last week I was in southwest Colorado and witnessed something of a unique race through the mountains. It begins in the town of Ouray and proceeds up over a mountain top, past the abandoned mining settlement of Tomboy and then down to the town of Telluride. Like shooting and processing film, there is a bit of alchemy to running a race of this distance over a very uneven terrain and at such altitude. It’s no Western States 100, but there are still many variables and unknowns to account for. It isn’t an exact science, more a mixture of technique, experience and a little soul dredging faith. Its a race that I’d like to run in the near future, not because its the longest, the toughest or the highest, but because its got history and one of the most beautiful settings. Its called the Imogen Pass Run.

Celebrating in BK

I’m very excited to announce that I will be participating in some small way at the upcoming Dumbo Arts Festival. Check out all the programs at the link above, but keep a special eye out for the happenings at the powerHouse gallery.

My image, The Reader (below) will appear in the Capture Brooklyn show put on by the organizers of the NY Photo Festival at the powerHouse gallery . The show opens September 23rd and runs through October 15th. So if you are in NY for the opening on the 23rd come down and say hi, or stop by and check it out!

Train Station

I love the feel of a roofed train station, and while this one in Jersey doesn’t compare to the grand, romantic stations in Europe, it does suggest a simpler time and an easier mode of transport.
